"Plant it Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness
Plant It Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness at Progress West (October 18, 2010, O’FALLON) – On Sunday, October 17 at 11 am, the Fleur de Lis Garden Society of St. Charles county planted and dedicated a “Plant It Pink” container garden at Progress West HealthCare Center in O'Fallon, Missouri. "The Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri, Inc. have a “Plant It Pink” initiative sponsored by National Garden Clubs, Inc. so we selected the newest hospital in St. Charles county to do this project. We want to help raise awareness of breast cancer and provide Progress West patients, their families and employees a serene area where they can enjoy seasonal plants and flowers," says Diane Goodman, 2010 President of the Fleur de Lis Garden Society.
"We appreciate the generous donation from the Fleur de Lis Garden Society. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so the timing is perfect. This fits right in with our goal of providing a healing environment," says Barbara Mc Laurine, Manager of Marketing and Physician Services for Progress West. Progress West HealthCare Center is the only full-service acute care hospital in southern St. Charles County. Located near the intersection of I-64/40 and Hwy K, Progress West opened in 2007 and is a member of BJC HealthCare.
A budget was discussed at the Oct. 2, 2010 meeting and it was decided to budget $ 515 toward this project. This was voted on and passed. The planter was purchased, sealed and transported to the hospital. The first plantings were large pots of pink and white mums. The plant material will be changed to reflect the seasons.
